About Us

Who we are, what we believe, where we come from, and where we're headed as a church family

Who we are

Fireplace Church cares about one thing more than anything else—devotion to Jesus Christ. We are a family of individuals that have found hope in Jesus and simply want as many people as possible to experience that exact same freedom.

Where we come from

In 2010, God began speaking to Pastor Alvin and Charity about planting a church in the Appalachian region of Virginia, and by 2014 it became clear to the Thomas family that they would be planting in Blacksburg, Virginia. By March 2015, the Thomas’ were living in Blacksburg and developing new friendships in their new community. Several of the people they met became part of Fireplace Church’s launch team. From September 2015 until January 2016, the Launch Team met together to pray, to build community, to make plans in preparation for launch day, January 31, 2016! On launch Sunday Fireplace Church began with a bang, with 101 people attending our first service and several people giving their heart to the Lord!  Fireplace Church continued to meet at Kipps Elementary School for the next two years before we moved to our permanent home at 416 Alleghany Street in Blacksburg, Virginia. We have been blessed to see the lost saved, the sick healed, and the children of God grow in simple devotion to Jesus!

Where we're headed

What's the bottom line? More than ever, Fireplace Church is committed to fostering a family built around devotion to Jesus. Our vision is illustrated within our name, Fireplace. A fireplace (whether it is a wood stove at home, a campfire or a bonfire with friends) is a place you do two things, 1. cultivate fire and 2. do life with others. We desire to cultivate a fire or passion for Jesus in the context of community. Our Fireplace family is committed to pursuing Jesus together!
